Zan and I have been experiencing the toilet in 370 Jay street 4th floor. We tried to find out what sensors each facility is using.
First is the toilet flulshing machine. We spend most of the time investigating into the magic that drives the toilet to be auto flushed. We gone through a tough time sitting on the toilet and doing nothing. Then standing up hoping it will flush, but it didn’t. Finally, we found out that it is when you step 1-2 bricks away from the standing point, you will ignite the flushing action. Also, when you get closer, this won’t work. It is only when you are getting away with a certain speed that will work. If you move away too fast, it also don’t work.
Then we found a video explaining very well about the auto flushing.
It also tells me that the sensor is infrared, and the action of flushing has some seconds of delay. Also it tells me that the toilet will auto flush to make sure there is always some water inside and the air won’t come out from inside.
Second is the faucet machine. I guess like the toilet one, they both use similar sensors but different in its recognition range. I used to hear that there are sensors using infrared that only detect human beings. However, the faucet also let water out if I am only placing tissues towards it. Also, I found that I can’t move my hand in order to get continuous water.
Then I looked up on the Internet and it says that this sensor is detecting near IR not IR. IR is used to detect human tempreture. Near IR is also invisible detection of light.
Third is the blanket machine. Altough there is a sensor, the magic mainly lies in the act of pulling blanket out. In this way it will trigger a button near the gap at the exit.
Fourth is the soap machine. The difference between soap machine and faucet is that soap machine can only give you a certain amount of foam, no matter how long your hand are staying under it. So this will give rise to another problem. We found that there is always extra foam under the machine. That it probably because someone is taking sway their hand when the foam is not fully given out.
Fifth is the drying hand machine. We feel it great. The only problem is that it will take water to the wall.
